Scott Piro

Chief of Staff

Scott Piro is a communications leader with 20+ years of experience in media relations, executive communications, corporate storytelling and organizational messaging. His background spans Fortune 500 corporations and Jewish American nonprofits, where he helps organizations tell their stories and guides leaders through growth, transformation and moments of heightened public attention. Scott lives in Manhattan with his husband and their rescue dog, where he is currently training for his 23rd marathon. He has sung onstage at Carnegie Hall eight times.

Why JewBelong?

Scott lives and breathes Jewish advocacy, as being a loud and proud Jew is central to his identity. He clocked JewBelong's arrival in real time because its bold, joyful, and unapologetic voice felt genuinely disruptive and reflected qualities strong within his own personality. Raised Jewish as the child of an interfaith couple, he made Aliyah and lived in Israel, and his Jewish identity has only deepened over the course of his life. In many ways, his own journey mirrors the audience JewBelong serves—from a relatively disengaged Jew to someone for whom Jewish identity, Zionism, and increasing observance have become central. That's why joining JewBelong as his third Jewish American nonprofit feels less like a career move and more like a natural continuation of his own story.

Scott's Fill in the Blanks

  • If I were on "America's Got Talent," I would perform stand-up comedy, which I've done a few times before. I love making people laugh. Singing would be my backup plan—probably Billy Joel, even though I'm a huge Swiftie, a Madonna stan, and a proud Duranie.
  • I absolutely refuse to share my Buttercup Bake Shop's purple ube cake -- well, maybe one forkful. And please don't finish my Johnson's Popcorn.
  • In high school, I was known for making people laugh, talking to just about everyone, and getting involved.
  • I can cook a mean Jell-O mold. Somewhere, Mom Mom Thelma is smiling.
  • The last time I forgot sunscreen was: I honestly don't know. Years of marathon training have given me "sunscreen muscle memory." But I can tell you most people forget the backs of their hands. Don't be most people.
  • My favorite TV show ever is obviously Cheers.
  • Karaoke? Count me in! I’m singing It's Still Rock & Roll to Me.
  • If Express Yourself is playing, I’ll be on the dance floor.
